Shared Disk Backup Policies

It may be beneficial to read about backup policies on Katapult.

Create a new shared disk backup policy

To create a backup policy for a shared disk you can follow these steps:

  1. Select Storage -> Shared disks from the sidebar
  2. Select the shared disk you with to create a backup policy for
  3. From the right sidebar select Disk backup policies
  4. Click the Add new disk backup policy button
  5. Set how many backups created by this policy should be retained
  6. Select how often you'd like the snapshot to occur.
  7. Specify the interval specific properties
  8. Click the Save button.

The backup policy for the shared disk has now been created. If you wish to edit this policy in future you can either find this policy within the Storage -> Backup policies menu from the Katapult sidebar or browse to it within the actual disk page accessible from the Storage -> Shared disks section.

Edit a shared disk backup policy

To edit an existing shared disk backup policy first locate the backup policy. You can do this in one of two ways.

Option One - Backup policies page

  1. Select Storage -> Disk backup policies from the sidebar
  2. Click on the name of the shared disk backup policy from the displayed table
  3. Select Edit backup policy from the right sidebar
  4. Modify the backup policy as required and click the Save button

Option Two - Navigating to the disk itself

  1. Select Storage -> Shared disks from the sidebar
  2. Select the shared disk you with to edit a backup policy of
  3. Click Disk backup policies from the right sidebar
  4. Select the name of the backup policy you wish to edit
  5. Select Edit backup policy from the right sidebar
  6. Modify the backup policy as required and click the Save button

Delete a shared disk backup policy

Important Consideration:
These steps will remove all backups associated with the policy; therefore, if you only wish to remove a single backup, see the shared disk section of the delete a backup how-to guide.

To delete an existing shared disk backup policy first locate the backup policy. You can do this in one of two ways, as below.

Option One - Disk backup policies page

  1. Select Storage -> Disk backup policies from the sidebar
  2. Click on the name of the shared disk backup policy from the displayed table
  3. Select Delete backup policy from the right sidebar
  4. Confirm the deletion

The backup policy and associated backup data will then be moved to the deleted items within Katapult. It will be removed automatically after 48 hours. It can also be reinstated during that time if needs be.

Option Two - Navigating to the disk itself

  1. Select Storage -> Shared disks from the sidebar
  2. Select the shared disk you with to delete a backup policy for
  3. Click Disk backup policies from the right sidebar
  4. Select the name of the backup policy you wish to delete
  5. Select Delete backup policy from the right sidebar
  6. Confirm the deletion

The backup policy and associated backup data will then be moved to the deleted items within Katapult. It will be removed automatically after 48 hours. It can also be reinstated during that time if needs be.

Create an ad-hoc shared disk backup using a backup policy

Before We Begin

Our Presumption:
Note that these steps presume you have already created a shared disk backup policy.

By default a backup policy will run at the time and interval set within it; however, you can initiate an ad-hoc backup within a backup policy at any time by following these steps below.

  1. Select Storage -> Disk backup policies from the sidebar
  2. Click on the name of the backup policy from the displayed table
  3. Select Initiate backup now from the right sidebar

The backup process will then commence. You can track it's progress in the tasks list on the same page.

Option Two - Navigating to the disk itself

  1. Select Storage -> Shared disks from the sidebar
  2. Select the shared disk you with to create an ad-hoc backup for
  3. Click Disk backup policies from the right sidebar
  4. Select the name of the backup policy to which this ad-hoc backup will relate
  5. Select Initiate backup now from the right sidebar

The backup process will then commence. You can track it's progress in the tasks list on the same page.
