To add a domain to the Katapult system you will need to have access to change either the nameservers for the given domain name or have the ability to add custom DNS records on the domain in question.
You are able to add a domain name to Katapult in one of two ways. The first option will see Katapult providing the authoritative nameservers for your domain name, achieved by changing the nameservers to those providing to you by Katapult during the add domain process. The second option is to simply validate the domain name with a simple TXT record change at the existing DNS zone for the domain in question. Note, using the former will mean that you can use Katapult to create A records, CNAME etc for your newly added domain name. The choice is yours.
The domain will then need to be verified. See Step Two.
To verify the domain name you will need to either change its nameservers or add a TXT record. See the appropriate option below
WARNING:
Changing the nameservers on your domain to those provided by Katapult will switch the domains authoritative nameservers to Katapult. This means that any custom records on the domain's existing DNS zone will fail to resolve once the domain switches over to Katapult unless you add them to the new DNS Zone at Katapult. However, changing your nameservers over will mean that Katapult will automatically handle DNS records for virtual machines within your account should their hostname/FQDN make use of the domain in question.
Step two of the add domain process will provide you with nameservers to set at your domain registrar. If you require assistance with making this change please contact your domain registrar or domain owner. Once you've made the change click the Verify button. The nameservers will then be checked and if successfully detected you will be taken into the newly created Katapult DNS Zone for the domain in question.
The alternative to using switching nameservers is to add a TXT record to the DNS zone for the domain in question. If you require assistance with making this change please contact your domain registrar or domain owner. Once you've made the change click the Verify button. The TXT record will then be checked and if successfully detected you will be taken into the newly created Katapult DNS Zone for the domain in question. Note that by using TXT record validation the Katapult system will not be able to manage DNS records on your domain for any custom hostname/FQDN that make use of it. You will need to manually create DNS records at your authoritative nameservers to ensure the required Katapult resources resolve correctly.
