IP Addresses

In This Guide

Add a new IP address to your organisation

Note:
Adding an IP address in the IP Addresses screen will simply allocate the IP address to your Katapult account but not then connect it with a network interface on a given virtual machine. If you wish to do both at the same time then it may be beneficial to refer to the assign an IP to an interface section of the virtual machine specific networking how-to guide.

  1. Select Networking -> IP Addresses from the left sidebar
  2. Click the Add a new IP Address button
  3. Select the network you wish to assign the IP address to and whether you require an IPv4 or IPv6 address.
  4. Click the Allocate new IP Address button.

A random IP address will be assigned to your account and removed from the Katapult pool. You will be taken the a page containing details relevant to the new IP address.

Release an IP back into the Katapult pool

  1. Select Networking -> IP Addresses from the left sidebar
  2. Select the IP address in question
  3. Select Release IP address from the actions sidebar

The IP address will now be returned to the Katapult IP pool and, where applicable, you will no longer be billed for it.

Declare / Stop declaring an IP address as a VIP

What is a VIP IP address?

Quite simply, declaring to Katapult that an IP address is considered a VIP will mean that it will not auto-assign it to any of your existing, or future services.

Steps to declare an IP as VIP

  1. Select Networking -> IP Addresses from the left sidebar
  2. Select the IP address in question
  3. Select Use as VIP from the actions sidebar
  4. Give the VIP IP a name of your choosing to help you easily identify it within the IP addresses list.
  5. Click the Use as VIP button

The IP will now be ignored by any auto-assignment logic.

Steps to stop declaring an IP as VIP

  1. Select Networking -> IP Addresses from the left sidebar
  2. Select the IP address in question
  3. Select Stop using as a VIP from the actions sidebar
  4. Confirm the action

The IP's VIP status has now been removed and it will once again be seen by any IP auto-assignment logic.
